Season programme
Choreographies : George Balanchine / Maurice Béjart / Anabelle Lopez Ochoa / José Martinez
The touring program is currently under review and may feature the following pieces:
Allegro Brillante
Choreography George Balanchine
Music Piotr Ilyitch Tchaïkovski
Duration 16 min – For 10 dancers
Allegro Brillante, one of George Balanchine’s most joyful and pure dance pieces, is characterized by what Maria Tallchief — the ballerina for whom the leading role was created — called «an expansive Russian romanticism.» Set to Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 3, the ballet showcases music that the composer originally sketched for a potential sixth symphony, ultimately becoming a one-movement work published posthumously in 1894. Balanchine described this ballet as a concentrated display of classical choreographic techniques, masterfully executed within a confined space and time.
Cantate 51
Choreography Maurice Béjart
Music Johann-Sebastian Bach
Duration 21min – For 8 dancers
« The joy that bursts forth in Johann Sebastian Bach’s composition offers us the theme of the Annunciation. The angel appears to Mary and foretells the birth of a son, a divine incarnation that energizes the transfigured universe, much like this music transcends humanity. »
Maurice Béjart
Requiem for a rose
Choreography Anabelle Lopez Ochoa
Music Franz Schubert
Sound design Almar Kok
Costumes Tatyana van Walsum
Duration 20 min – For 13 dancers
Profoundly dramatic, Requiem for a rose is a contemporary piece that delves into inner love, with the heart as the main character. The dancers’ organic movements embody its beats and pulses. Clad in swirling red skirts, the performers transform into rose petals, a universal symbol of love. The choreography, strikingly beautiful, renders each gesture poetic and deeply meaningful.
Mi Favorita
Choreography José Martinez
Music Gaetano Donizetti
Costumes Agnès Letestu
Duration 28 min – For 18 dancers
-Dedicated to José Ferrán –
