Dyptik

Artistic directors / Choreographers: Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari

The company Dyptik was founded in 2012 by Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari, both hip-hop authors-choreographers. The name they chose for their company is symbolic and meaningful: separately although already together, they discovered hip-hop dance and never gave it up. Today, they trust in their artistic twinning and embrace a co-writing process in which each of them finds his place according to the projects. hey question the world and assert themselves with a strong and authentic dance, engaged in its relationship with others, with body and with transmission. They both promote a plural-formed discipline, in the street or on stages, and draw their inspiration from travels across the world, meetings with dancers and discoveries of other hip-hop forms. In 2019, they were awarded the prize for New Talent in Choreography by SACD, a French society of authors Nowadays, with their company, they produce and present their shows in France and abroad.
The company Dyptik has set up its own creative space in Saint-Étienne, France. Since 2014, the Studios Dyptik have become a real place of artistic residency. The festival TRAX, created by Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari, partly takes place in the Studios. Through this annual event, the two choreographers confirm their will to contribute to the development of dance and to the revelation of young creators.

In partnership with Maison de la Danse in Lyon, the company will create a piece for 10 dancers which will premiere at the Lyon Dance Biennal from 21 to 23 September 2023. This creation by Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari will question today’s society and the emancipation of bodies.

Press talks about it

“The seven performers are all exceptional dancebreakers also open to different techniques. They transcend hip-hop segmentation to portray cutting and sharp-edged characters who hammer their dominance with a simple blow to the shoulder.”

Rosita Boisseau, Le Monde

“The hip-hop moves are perfectly performed, movements are lithe and gestures feline… The action is flowing, not a second too long, not a moment too short. The implacable mechanics sweep everything along, leaving far behind all the dance we may have seen before…”

Emmanuel Serafini, Le Bruit du Off
