Dyptik

Artistic directors / Choreographers: Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari

Dyptik was founded in 2012 by Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari, both hip-hop choreographers and authors. The name they chose for the company is symbolic and meaningful: individually, yet together, they discovered hip-hop dance, which has been a constant in their lives ever since. Today, they embrace their artistic twinship, asserting a co-authorship where each takes their place according to the project’s needs, and explore the world through a shared lens. They assert themselves through a strong and authentic dance style, deeply engaged in its relationship with others, the body, and the transmission of culture. Embracing a discipline with a multifaceted language, whether in the street or on stage, they draw inspiration from traveling the world, meeting performers, and encountering diverse dance forms. In 2019, they were awarded the New Choreographic Talent prize by SACD. Today, with their company, they produce and tour their shows in France and internationally, with around sixty performances per season.

La Compagnie Dyptik is based in its own creative space in Saint-Étienne, the Dyptik Studios, which, since 2014, has become a true artist residency. The two choreographers created the TRAX festival, partially held there, to affirm their commitment to developing dance and discovering new talent.

Season highlights

Dyptik will kick off this season with a project titled Chantier en cours. This initiative, focusing on Morocco and featuring collaborations with Moroccan companies and artists, will take place in Saint-Etienne in October 2024.

As in previous years, Dyptik’s season will unfold in two distinct phases: one dedicated to indoor performances and the other to outdoor shows. This autumn and winter, the company will present Le Grand Bal in 21 cities across Europe. In the spring and summer, over 25 performances of MIRAGE (a day of celebration) are scheduled to take place outdoors.

In May 2025, the company will be invited to the Théâtre des Bergeries in Noisy-le-Sec for a carte blanche event titled Chtah-M3ana. Circus artists, dancers, and musicians will guide the audience through a captivating world, orchestrated by Dyptik, for a weekend immersed in the essence of Moroccan culture.

Press talks about it

« Borrowing certain postures from warrior discourse and drawing some movements from transcendental rites, [Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari] blur the lines of hip-hop to better define a new style of dance that combines multiple techniques and several choreographic grammars. »

Olivier Frégaville-Gratian d’Amore, L’Œil d’Olivier

« The hip-hop moves performed are perfectly executed, the movement is very fluid, the gestures feline… The actions are impeccably rhythmic, not a moment too long, not a moment missing; it’s a formidable mechanism that sweeps everything in its path, leaving behind all the dance we’ve seen, here or elsewhere…  »

Emmanuel Serafini, Le Bruit du Off
