Hessisches Staatsballett

Hessisches Staatsballett, is the shared dance company of Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Staatstheater Darmstadt. Since its foundation in 2014, the company stands for a diverse, cultural range of classical and contemporary dance productions. Since season 2020/21 Bruno Heynderickx directs the 28 dancer ensemble who produce each season an average of four programs by well-known German and international guest choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter, Crystal Pite, Damien Jalet, Marco Goecke, Bryan Arias, Edward Clug, Eyal Dadon, Sharon Eyal, Martin Harriague, Ohad Naharin, Imre & Marne van Opstal. In addition to its own productions, the Hessisches Staatsballett offers an extensive repertoire in collaboration with high-quality guest companies, as well as the work of talented young dancers. Furthermore, the Hessisches Staatsballett invests in co-producing the work of independent dance makers and offers several artistic residences each season. This format is unique in Germany and offers the audiences in Wiesbaden and Darmstadt a large and diverse spectrum of dance.
The Hessisches Staatsballett places great importance on developing a comprehensive outreach programme, particularly in schools, with workshops and open classes.
Last but not least, the Hessisches Staatsballett is a founding member of the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, a platform that aims to strengthen the position of dance in the region. Together with its cooperation partner – Künstler:innenhaus Mousonturm – a wide variety of participatory projects, are developed and organized year round. The most visible part of the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main activities is the Tanzfestival Rhein-Main.
