The Firebird / The Rite of Spring

The Firebird

Choreography: Thierry Malandain
Music: Igor Stravinski
Set and costume design: Jorge Gallardo
Lighting: François Menou
Costume making: Véronique Murat,
assisted by: Charlotte Margnoux
Created in 2021
Duration: 30 min

Thierry Malandain marks his third encounter with Igor Stravinsky He uses the 1945 concert suite, also choreographed by Balanchine, to present a Firebird that is representative of hope. The almost Christlike blazing phoenix rises from its ashes and turns out to be a courier of light, bringing consolation and hope to the hearts of men.

The Rite of Spring

Choreography and scenography: Martin Harriague
Music: Igor Stravinski
Lighting: François Menou and Martin Harriague
Costume design and making: Mieke Kockelkorn
Assistant choreographer : Françoise Dubuc
Created in 2021
Duration: 35 min

Martin Harriague keeps studying the link human/nature with a wild and powerful Rite. The complex rhythmic hammering of the work suits the choreographer’s language, who gives up any physical lyricism He focuses on the expressive power of primitive movement and fractal figures through which the group coils, unfolds and contracts, like the living that reappears.

Press talks about it

“Great and beautiful dance. […] In both parts, we find the signature of this company from Biarritz, which is fond of both physical and expressive dance, without denying its classical training.“
François Delétraz, Le Figaro
