Carte Blanche

Carte Blanche is the Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance. Founded in 1989 in Bergen, it has established itself as one of the leading forces in the Scandinavian dance scene, with a strong presence both in Norway and on international stages.

Since 2018, under the artistic direction of Annabelle Bonnéry, the company has embraced a bold and socially engaged vision, addressing contemporary political and societal issues through dance.

Comprising 14 dancers with diverse backgrounds and artistic sensibilities, Carte Blanche develops an original and forward-thinking repertoire that reflects its commitment to innovation and the evolution of contemporary dance.

Each season, the company produces two to three new works in collaboration with choreographers selected for their ability to question the body, explore form, and respond to the urgencies of the world today.

Carte Blanche’s artistic direction places a strong emphasis on cross-disciplinary approaches and socially relevant themes. It champions an open, thought-provoking dance practice that challenges conventions and encourages dialogue between artists and audiences. Its performers are celebrated for their individuality, creativity, and versatility in embracing a wide range of choreographic languages.

Based at Studio Bergen, which houses its creation and performance spaces, Carte Blanche plays a vital role in the Norwegian dance landscape. It contributes actively to its national and international visibility, carrying forward a resolutely future-facing vision of contemporary creation.
