Carte Blanche
Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance
Artistic Director: Annabelle Bonnéry
Carte Blanche – Norway’s national contemporary dance company, was founded in 1989 and is based in Bergen. Today, it stands as one of the most prominent Scandinavian companies on international stages.
Comprised of 14 international dancers, the company is renowned for its remarkable creativity, distinctive personalities and technical excellence. This solid foundation enables Carte Blanche to embrace a wide range of performances and aesthetics, essential for maintaining the diversity of its repertoire.
The company’s esteemed reputation makes it a coveted artistic partner for both established choreographers and emerging talents.
Under the artistic direction of French choreographer Annabelle Bonnéry since 2018, Carte Blanche commissions works from choreographers who address social issues through dance. She has broadened the company’s artistic scope by introducing programs designed to engage diverse audiences, contributing to its audience development and sustainability efforts in touring. She also fosters collaborations with artists interested in the intersection of different artistic disciplines.
Carte Blanche produces new works each season, offering a dynamic and unique repertoire that underscores the company’s commitment to being an innovative leader in contemporary dance.
Season highlights
Created in 2022, Eszter Salamon’s vibrant piece, MONUMENT 0.10: The Living Monument is still welcomed in prestigious venues in Europe such as the Julidans festival in Amsterdam, the National Theatre of Wallonia-Brussels and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
The company will tour across Norway throughout the season to present the play RETRO CAT by the artist Tori Wrånes, which was created at the end of May 2024 for the Bergen International Festival.
In parallel, Carte Blanche will unveil two original creations. The first, by artist Katerina Andreou, will premiere on March 6, 2025, and the second, designed by Jan Martens, will be revealed on May 22, 2025, both in Bergen.

Lander Patrick invites us into a world where the social rules are underpinned by an unfair game which gives arbitrary and brutal results. The performance invokes a chess board,...
BIRGET; Ways to deal, Ways to heal
Based on the Sámi expression "Birget", which means "to face and survive in a changing environment", the play explores the way in which the State deals with its own colonial heritage, both pedagogically and critically. Sara et Nango
MONUMENT 0.10: The Living Monument
In the performance series MONUMENT, Eszter Salamon creates a world with its own logic. The new work, created with Carte Blanche and entitled The Living Monument, explores the monument as an emancipatory space resisting oblivion and exclusion.
