Carte Blanche
Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance

Carte Blanche – Norwegian National Contemporary Dance Company, was founded in 1989. Based in Bergen, it is today one of the most represented Scandinavian companies on the international scene.
Consisting of 14 international dancers, the company is solidly supported by their technical qualities, their personalities and their remarquable creativity. Thus, they rise to the challenge of opening up to a wide field of performances and aesthetics, which are necessary to maintain the diversity of the repertoire. The company’s reputation allows it to be an enviable artistic partner to both renowned choreographers and a new generation of talents.
Under the artistic direction of the French choreographer Annabelle Bonnéry, the company commissions choreographers involved in social questions and who express themselves through dance She has expanded the company’s artistic offerings to include an additional program aimed at diverse audiences, as part of its audience development and sustainability focused framework for touring. Annabelle also collaborates with artists concerned about the encounter between different artistic fields. Carte Blanche produces new creations every season. creating thus an exciting and unique repertoire of high quality, underpinning the company’s goal to be an innovative forerunner, presenting and developing contemporary dance in Norway and abroad.
Season highlights
Carte Blanche’s touring season will be remarkable. First at the Rurhtriennale, Festival der Künste and the Festival d’automne à Paris in Nanterre with MONUMENT 0.10: The Living Monument by Eszter Salamon, then at the Festival international de danse de Cannes with BIRGET; Ways to deal, ways to heal, a piece created with artists Sámi Elle Sofe Sara and Joar Nango.
Then on prestigious stages such as Helsinki, Stockholm, Göteborg and Barcelona…
Finally, in May 2024, Carte Blanche will present its latest creation at the Bergen International Festival, in collaboration with Norwegian transmedia artist Tori Wrånes.

In the repertoire
MONUMENT 0.10: The Living Monument
In the performance series MONUMENT, Eszter Salamon creates a world with its own logic. The new work, created with Carte Blanche and entitled The Living Monument, explores the monument as an emancipatory space resisting oblivion and exclusion.
BIRGET; Ways to deal, Ways to heal
Based on the Sámi expression "Birget", which means "to face and survive in a changing environment", the play explores the way in which the State deals with its own colonial heritage, both pedagogically and critically. Sara et Nango
