With over 3,200 performances across 60 countries and more than 3 million spectators worldwide, Ballets Jazz Montréal stands as one of Québec’s most prominent ambassadors on the international dance scene. Its repertoire—bold, accessible, and emotionally rich—features renowned choreographers such as Crystal Pite, Aszure Barton, Andonis Foniadakis, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Ihsan Rustem. Blending dance, theatre, and song, the company’s works showcase the individuality and powerful presence of its performers.

Founded in 1972 by Geneviève Salbaing and Eva Von Gencsy as a symbol of jazz and contemporary dance, the company has continually evolved over the past five decades, embracing a wide range of choreographic influences to enrich its artistic language.

Since 2021, Ballets Jazz Montréal has been led by Alexandra Damiani, a French-born dancer and choreographer who built her career in the United States. Under her leadership, the company remains true to its essence: a dance that is physically generous, vibrant, and deeply expressive.

Balancing artistic excellence with accessibility, Ballets Jazz Montréal combines high-caliber productions with a strong commitment to education. It leads a number of initiatives, including BJM_360, an intensive program for pre-professional dancers; BJM_Lab, a creative space for company artists; and numerous masterclasses and outreach programs.

Guided by values of rigor, passion, curiosity, and openness, the company is deeply committed to transmission. It reaches out to audiences of all backgrounds—to inspire discovery, spark imagination, and share its enduring love of movement.
