Created in 2025 – Duration 30min
For 12 dancers
The Beauty of Dissolving Portraits, Alonzo King LINES Ballet’s first collaboration with Oakland-born trumpeter and composer Ambrose Akinmusire, is a visceral meeting of powerful physicality and jazz-infused sound.
Akinmusire’s breathy, foghorn-like trumpet drifts through sustained, organ-like tones, amplifying the athletic, expansive sweep of King’s choreography, as dancers carve the space with bold, fluid motion before dissolving into a haunting collective finale.
Press talks about it
« Beauty overflows with impactful solos and small ensembles, which amplify and take advantage of a specific dancer’s sensibilities and exceptional abilities. […] Beauty concludes in typical King fashion with a no-holds-barred finale, a mixture of fierce and furious unison work for the whole company. »
