To celebrate the tenth anniversary of her company, Xie Xin presents two new creations that bring her poetic movement language into dialogue with the iconic scores of Erik Satie and Igor Stravinsky. Deeply inspired by Eastern philosophy, she explores the duality between softness and strength, lightness and gravity, through the reinterpretation of two contrasting musical worlds: In Satie merges French romanticism with Eastern mysticism, immersing us in a subtle, entrancing atmosphere. Satie’s Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes are reimagined and enriched through a delicate interplay between vibraphone and piano.
In the second part, The Rite of Spring channels the power of percussion and striking piano chords to give the music intense physical and visual force. Inspired by the accidental fire that destroyed the company’s studios in 2023, Xie Xin transforms her sense of helplessness in the face of nature into a force of survival and humanity— guided by the belief that “one must face death in order to embrace life.” Dance becomes a visceral, visual language that transcends the music, expressing both resilience in adversity and rebirth through hardship.
Balancing poetry and power, In Satie & The Rite of Spring invites reflection on the cycle of life, where each act of destruction carries within it the promise of renewal.
« The artistic philosophy of In Satie & The Rite of Springis deeply rooted in Eastern wisdom. In this work, the concepts of “lightness and heaviness” as well as “gentleness and hardness” are expressed as inseparable aspects of a single whole. In Satie and The Rite of Spring create a striking contrast that resonates with the aesthetic principle of Yin and Yang coexistence. »
