Marco Goecke associates Midnight Raga with a deep midnight blue, echoing the classical Indian music of Ravi Shankar, which serves here as the starting point of his creation—an exception to his usual process. Fascinated by the music’s mystical and singular character, he chooses to explore it without incorporating any Indian dance elements. Inspired by the intensity and contrasts of India, he draws from it a force that is at once compelling and destructive. Despite this influence, his nervous, precise, and deeply personal movement vocabulary remains immediately recognizable, fully embodied by the performers.
