Presented by many international dance companies since its world premiere in 1999 in The Hague by Nederlands Dans Theater II, Minus 16 is a piece built from excerpts taken from previous Ohad Naharin’s creations such as Mabul, Anaphaza and Zachacha.
To the sound of Israeli and Cuban traditional musics, the dancers dressed up in black are submitted to the confines of improvisation and to the audience’s participation. In this piece, Ohad Naharin uses his famous Gaga technique to capture the dancer’s instinctive movements, by adding and subtracting elements that allow the reflection on each person’s individuality. By inviting the audience to come on stage and join the dancers, he proves that dance is a universal language.
