In their fourth collaboration, following VESSEL (2016), Planet[wanderer] (2021) and Mist (2022), choreographer Damien Jalet and visual artist Kohei Nawa continue to explore the perpetually transforming nature of life. They achieve this by merging their respective disciplines and confronting the human body with various materials.
Inspired by the phenomena of mirages and Fata Morgana—optical illusions caused by specific weather conditions —Jalet and Nawa depict humanity in search of itself, wandering in a metaphorical desert.
Through a series of unpredictable transformations, their piece peels back the layers of the performers, exploring an infinite variety of physical and emotional states. At times, it evokes the specters of a civilization on the brink of a dry well; at other times, it is permeated by the sensuality and vibrant colors of tropical nature. Mirage unfolds like a waking dream, fluctuating and shifting, akin to atmospheric phenomena.
In the repertoire
Skid & THR(O)UGH
Oscillating between verticality and horizontality, Skid is presented on a 34-degree inclined platform that plunges directly into the orchestra pit.
