In The Firebird, Edouard Hue focus his attention on the tensions and divisions that characterize our time. The advent of social media has effectively transformed communication, offering unprecedented potential for sharing ideas, exchanging points of view and embracing diversity. However, this digital revolution also has its downside. By facilitating anonymity and amplifying extreme opinions, social networks have become platforms where hatred is poured out daily, blurring the boundaries between the real and the virtual. The reinterpretation of The Firebird takes on its full meaning in this context. By combining a classic work with the modern choreographic vision of Edouard Hue, it demonstrates that old and new generations can be complementary.

By structuring the piece in two parts – a prelude and a reinterpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s work – Edouard Hue weaves a dialogue between a tangible reality and a magical, oppressive universe. This ballet immerses the audience in an imaginary universe where humanity is prisoner in the kingdom of Kashcheï, a timeless figure representing control and illusion. The hero remains anchored in reality and embodies the very essence of resistance in the face of a world captive to deceptive appearances. He becomes the bearer of a quest for liberation, seeking to rekindle a flame of truth with the help of the Firebird, symbol of light and transformation.

Scenographer Sigolène Pétey worked with Hue to design a world of contrasts, amplified by the physical and intense dance of the choreographer, who pushes his performers to explore the limits of movement and to play with the density of space. The costumes and lights, the artistic basis of which was imagined by the artist Marc Limousin, bring a graphic dimension which is integrated into the whirlwind of Stravinsky’s music, accompanied by the sound creations of Jonathan Soucasse, to create a work of a captivating depth.
